The use of ADUs to create affordable living and urban infill in cities is catching on. Along with California and Oregon, other cities are seeing the benefit of adding tiny homes to existing backyards.

The city of Pittsburgh adopted an Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) ordinance in 2020. One company that offers these tiny backyard homes is Module, based in Pittsburgh.
Module designs and builds mixed-income, infill, and multifamily homes. For the tiny house crowd, they also offer two ADU models that range in size from 576 to 265 square feet. The Universal Nook is the largest and comes with one bedroom. It also has a bathroom.
The Berkley model is a studio with efficiency kitchen and bathroom.
The best thing is that the Universal Nook is designed for people with mobility issues with lower kitchen countertop heights and convertible cabinets. The Universal Nook starts at $115,000.
The smaller Berkley is a studio model with an efficiency kitchen, living room/bedroom, and bathroom. The sofa in the living room can be turned into a bedroom with a Murphy bed or pullout. The inset porch offers the square design a bit of interest and adds some dimension to the kitchen area. The Berkley starts at $92,000.
Each of these designs have large, plentiful windows and doors that let in a lot of light. They also come with all appliances, lighting, and plumbing.
